The Department of Design at IIT-Hyderabad offers a vibrant environment for learning, practicing and exploring several facets of design. The department envisions to creatively engage in the space between technologies and people. This involves facilitating innovation in the key emergent areas such as Participatory and Collaborative Design, Professional Ethics/ Sustainability, Product Systems and Services, Design and Education, Wellness, Crowd Sourced Design.
Design Innovation Centre, IIT Hyderabad
Dr. Deepak John Mathew is the Principal Design Investigator of DIC at IIT Hyderabad. IITH is one amongst the 20 new Design Innovation Centres. Department of Design - DIC has since been working towards the infrastructure of the ecosystem in which Designers and Engineers in academia interact with real world problems and stakeholders to give shape to creative entrepreneurial co- operation and collaboration.
Aim
We aim to use design to the fullest to simplify the human lifestyle and to engage creative minds in innovating and experimenting with the design process and to understand its vast possibilities. We also strive to impart quality design education and design for sustainability. We believe in learning from the fields rather than theoretical knowledge.

Deepak John Mathew holds a Master’s degree in Fine Arts (Graphic Arts) from M.S. University, Vadodara and holds a Ph.D in Design Education from the Centre for Advanced Studies in Education, M.S. University, Vadodara.
Currently, he is a Professor, the Head of Design Department and the Principal Design Investigator at Design Innovation Centre(DIC) which is funded by MHRD,Government of India. He is involved in setting up the Design Department at IIT Hyderabad.
At NID, Deepak was the Head of Photography Design from the year 2002 to 2013 and taught Analytical Drawing, Composition, Colour and Form, Design Drawing, Illustration, Colour and Composition for Digital Medium, Basic Photography, Advanced Photography, Fashion Photography, Product and Still Life Photography, and Documentary Photography.
